Report of stolen licence plate by neighbouring block watch
DATE & TIME: Approximately June 10th but not discovered until July 17th
LOCATION: 2837 – 161 Street
DESCRIPTION OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY:
On Friday, July 17th A resident received a bill from QuickPass for $77 for tolls on the Golden Ears bridge for his Jeep. His vehicle has never driven over that bridge. That was when he checked his license plate and discovered his vehicle had someone else’s license plate on the back. The thieves had stolen his plate for their vehicle and replaced it with another stolen plate. He immediately called the RCMP who came to retrieve the plate and advised him the stolen plate on his car had been reported stolen quite some time ago. QuickPass has also started an investigation and informed Him that his plate had been used Thursday morning to cross the bridge. The first charge on the QuickPass bill is for June 10th, so this is the best estimate they have for when the plate was stolen.
The resident noted his vehicle had not been driven much since May 27th so chances are the plate was stolen while his car was parked in the driveway. This is the second time his license plate has been stolen; the first while he was parked for 30 minutes at a business in Vancouver. He notes he will now be checking his license plate periodically to make sure it’s his. Something we should all do.
