The following suspicious activity is reported for info by our neighbouring Block Watch Captain

FILE NUMBER: TBA

DATE & TIME: October 6 around 4:00 pm

LOCATION: Close to the intersection of 28th Avenue and 160 Street on the east side of the road

DESCRIPTION OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY:

The son of one of our Block Watch participants left Southridge school at 4:00 pm and walked down 160 St on the east side of the road. When he was close to the intersection of 28 Ave and 160 St, a man riding a bicycle on the west side of 160 Street called him and asked him for a wrench from the other side of the road. The boy waved the man away, but the man kept calling him. A lady who stopped her car at the red traffic light interrupted and told the boy not to listen to the man. The man then rode away up 160 St. in the direction of the Homedepot. The young boy thanked the lady and walked across 28 Ave and home safely.

The man wore a football helmet and camouflage clothing. The young boy could not describe the man through the cage of the helmet because the man’s face was very dirty.

When the young boy arrived home he told his Mom about the incident who called the RCMP. They were dispatched and combed the area. Shortly after 7:00 pm the RCMP provided an update to the Block Watch participant advising the man had been caught. He was a homeless man with mental health problems.

This incident is a good reminder to review safety with your children around not talking to strangers, and reporting anything suspicious to Mom/Dad.
