This past week has seen an increase in criminal activity in District 5 as reported by our Block Watch partner.

(See “ALERTS” below). Please keep a wary eye and report ANYTHING that appears suspicious. It is important that all activity be reported as RCMP are sent out and the increase in their presence will deter criminal activity. Also, they could be caught which was the case in the quick action taken by the Block Watch participant reporting Incident #1.

REMEMBER: if it looks suspicious, it usually is…trust your gut and make the call.

INCIDENT #1:
FILE NUMBER: 15-136813

LOCATION: West of the mailboxes on 28B Ave.

DESCRIPTION OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY:

A tall athletic looking male, approximately 6’2 parked and got out of a dark coloured truck with a white stripe carrying a bag over the shoulder. The vehicle and man were not familiar to the neighborhood. He walked down the paved path in front of the green belt heading east towards 161A St. A short while later he headed back towards his vehicle and then past it heading west toward 160A St.

The RCMP were notified and arrived within a few minutes. The dog squad was called. The suspect was caught and the witness’ statement taken. The vehicle turned out to be stolen.

Cst. R. Pereira who attended the scene asked Block Watch to reach out to the other members to see if anyone else witnessed or perhaps has video surveillance of the incident between 5-6am. If you do, or have any additional information you can provide, please call the non-emergency number: 604-599-0502 quoting the above file number.

DESCRIPTION OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY:

Two unsavoury males were attempting to break into the residents’ daughters car which is a white Volkswagen parked in the driveway. When they looked out the window they could see them attempting to break into the care at which time they quickly turned the light alarms on for all of their vehicles and the individuals fled on foot.

If you have any additional information you can provide, please contact me and I will get a file number so you can call the non-emergency number: 604-599-0502.

INCIDENT #3:

FILE NUMBER: TBA

DATE & TIME: Today, September 26, at approx. 2:15 pm
LOCATION: 28A Avenue and 161 St. At the green power box on 28A Avenue by the BLOCK WATCH sign

DESCRIPTION OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY:

A male, between 35 & 40 years of age, slender, approx. 5’9” was approached by the resident residing at 2851-161 Street while walking her dog. The male was wearing blue jeans, had several jackets tied around his waist, a ball cap, dark hair, stubble on his face that was turning silver/grey. He had a clear bag like the old compost bags with power tools (saw), other tools, misc items and a very expensive looking bike. When approached and questioned, the male said he was moving and waiting for his girlfriend to pick him up, but her mother had the car. When the resident left, the individual very quickly left the area. The police were called and arrived shortly thereafter and combed the area.

NOTE: I do not recommend approaching suspicious individuals, but this resident is an RCMP officer. Due to the description of this individual it matches the description of an individual seen in our area approximately a month before (in the alley way between the Morgan Heights homes and the homes on 160th Street). It appears he seems to think that being obvious is not going to draw attention. Please read the description above and immediately report (911) if you see him. Remember to keep your garage doors down, even if you are working outside as it only takes a few seconds to steal tools, sports equipment, whatever you may have in your garage….or even enter your home through the garage.

Please be safe everyone, protect yourselves and property by locking up and being aware if you see something suspicious “OBSERVE AND REPORT”. Crime in progress is 911, suspicious activity 604-599-0502. Refer to your Block Watch Manual for what is a 911 call or a non-emergency call.

Thanks again for your support and on-going awareness.
