Attention Block Watch Members,

The Surrey RCMP continues to target and arrest the city’s most prolific robbery offenders. Between September 1st and November 30th, 38 people were arrested and are facing a number of charges in relation to robberies committed across the city and region.

In the month of November alone, seven prolific robbery offenders were charged with 32 offences. These include:

Taxi robberies
· Jacob DAHLNAS (23 years old) has been charged with: Robbery, Assault with a weapon
· Shayne HEWER (24 years old) has been charged with: Robbery X 2, Assault with weapon X 2

Bank robberies
· David PULLEN (26 years old) has been charged with: Robbery
· Wesley BEDDOME (52 years old) has been charged with: Robbery X 2, Disguise with an intent

Store robberies
· Michael IVESON (30 years old) has been charged with: Robbery
· Travis FRASER, (24 years old) has been charged with: Robbery X 7, Use of imitation firearm X 6, Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
· Sidney GOOSENS (24 years old) has been charged with: Robbery with a Firearm, Robbery, Disguise with Intent, Use a restricted or prohibited firearm, Pointing a firearm, Possession of a firearm without licence, Use of a firearm while committing an offence

As the majority of these robberies have involved businesses, the Surrey RCMP’s Robbery Unit continues to liaise with local business owners and employees to share information and discuss preventative steps.

Personal robberies still make up a large percentage of the city’s overall robberies, however, and as such it is incumbent on individuals to remain vigilant.

“Many of us get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season which may lead to us taking shortcuts on personal and property safety,” says Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann. “Combine this with the darker days and longer nights and unfortunately you’ve got a holiday recipe for opportunistic thieves and criminals. Make sure you take the necessary precautions including maintaining awareness of your surroundings, and limiting distractions.”
